Pupil Parliament

Giving our children greater responsibilities

Parliament in session!

At the Fairlawn and Haseltine Federation, we believe that pupil voice must be at the centre of our work. At the start of the year students are able to vote in a representative for their class and these children form our Pupil Parliament. These students take on a great responsibility as the person that others can look to for guidance and help.

Pupil Parliament meets weekly to discuss issues brought to them by their classmates, as well as how we can raise money for the school or our charity for that year and also other ways to ensure everyone is enjoying their Haseltine experience.

We also go on many trips, including The Houses of Parliament and City Hall, where we learn about the history of democracy and how local and national government runs.

Pupil Parliament is about giving the students a voice when in how Haseltine is run and our representatives have already had many great ideas on how to shape our curriculum and how to best support their peers to make the most of their Haseltine experiences.

Some of our Pupil Parliament children from both schools recently met the mayor of Lewisham and had the chance to find out more about local politics.
